South Dakota Episcopal Diocese Archives (1862-present): Official records of the Episcopal Church's work in South Dakota, including the papers of Bishop William Hobart Hare.

Stephen R. Riggs and Riggs Family Papers (1836-1951): Correspondence of Stephen Riggs as missionary under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to the Dakota Sioux of Minnesota, before and after the Minnesota Dakota Conflict of 1862. Also records of the Santee Normal Training School, under Alfred Riggs, and the Oahe Industrial School, under Thomas Riggs.

Robert G. Smith Collection (1861-1865): Records of "H" Company, Ninth Regiment, Kansas Volunteer Cavalry, under the command of Capt. Thomas P. Killen.

Peder L. Phillips Collection (1880-1992): Entries in the thirty-one volume diary (1913-1989) describe Peder's life in the military and on the farm in Valley Springs, South Dakota.

Charlotte V. Carver Collection (1967-1990): South Dakota Arts Council records collected by Charlotte Carver as Executive Director of the state arts council from 1967 to1988.

Reuben Goertz Collection (1873-1992): Research materials collected by Reuben Goertz on the Germans from Russia who settled in the Freeman area of South Dakota.

John R. Milton Papers (1950-1990): Correspondence and manuscripts of author, founding editor of the literary journal South Dakota Review, and professor of English at the University of South Dakota.

Herbert A. Krause Papers (1939-1976): Correspondence and manuscripts of professor of English and writer in residence at Augustana College and author of three novels, numerous plays, poems, essays, and reviews. Collection also documents Krause's work as co-founder of the South Dakota Ornithologists Union and founder of the Center for Western Studies.

Clarence S. Paine Papers (1871-1948): Research files of librarian Paine on Calamity Jane for his uncompleted study.

Harold Shunk Collection (1860-1987): Materials on Plains Indian life assembled by Lakota teacher and administrator Shunk, who served as BIA superintendent of the Turtle Mountain Consolidated Agency, Standing Rock Agency, and Rosebud Agency in the 1950s and 1960s.

Nils N. Boe and Family Collection (1932-1984): Papers of Wisconsin social work administrator Borghild Boe and her brother, former South Dakota Governor and Federal Judge Nils Boe.

American Indian Culture Research Center, Blue Cloud Abbey (1980-present): Records of the Benedictine mission to Native Americans in South Dakota established by Fr. Stan Maudlin, OSB.
